JACK L. MASSIE CONTRACTOR COMPLETES JOHN DEERE VEHICLE FACILITY

Williamsburg, VA, Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. has recently completed its subcontract on the John Deere Vehicle Facility in Stonehouse Commerce Park. The subcontract included site excavation, storm water management facilities, water and sewer utilities, concrete curbing, asphalt pavement, and turf establishment. This important project, which was completed within the schedule limits and under budget, gave JLMCI the opportunity to continue its tradition of excellence in construction.

The facility is an important addition to James City County's industrial development. By employing over 300 people, John Deere will continue to support our local economy. This high-profile project will produce the popular "Gator" utility vehicle for world-wide distribution.

Williamsburg, VA– Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. is continuing construction of the Alternate Route 5 project. The extension of Monticello Avenue will connect at News Road, route traffic across Powhatan Creek, intersect Greensprings Plantation and Centerville Roads, and eventually connect to Route 5 near Two Rivers Road. The roadway will improve travel between the Route 5 corridor and New Town.

Our contract includes the extension of a Hampton Roads Sanitation District Force Main, JCSA Water Main, grading of 3.5 km of two-lane roadway, storm water management facilities, asphalt paving, and a signalized intersection at Route 5. The project is currently on schedule for planned completion in November 2001.

Jack L. Massie Contractor was very busy this past year with four major road and site projects within two miles of each other in Williamsburg, Virginia. 

The new Monticello Marketplace Shopping Center, represented in the above aerial, is the largest shopping center in Williamsburg, Virginia.  Complete with a Target Department Store and Ukrop's Super Market, by Williams Company of Orlando, Inc. out of Florida.  In the final weekly project newsletter, Project Manager John Jackson wrote; "...Russell Garrison (his superintendent) and Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. combined to do an exceptional job of sitework.  They achieved a quality normally not found in that type of work."  With thousands of feet of storm drainage, sanitary and water main utilities to install along with thousands of cubic yards of earth to move and place, this project is a testament to the capabilities of Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. 

Wrapped around the new shopping center are three major state roadway projects under contract with Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. 

The longest section of roadway project, Rt. 199 and Monticello Avenue Extended, started in September, 1996 at the current contract amount of $15.13 million.  One year into the project, the State and County governments changed the functional design of two miles of roadway from a Rural standard to an Urban design. 

News Road Relocated started in April, 1997 at contract signing for the amount of $1.1 million. 

Rt. 199 x Monticello Avenue Bridge Overpass, a project that connects the Massie's section of Rt. 199 to another contractor's section, was awarded to Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. in May 1998.  This project in Metric measure is valued at a contract cost of $5.38 million.
